Addiction: Overlooked Aspect of Healthcare Crisis

The noise and debate over the repeal and replace Obamacare topic misses key points....

the most important point being, where can we make the most impact on building health and "assuring" (not just "insuring") that better health is the ultimate objective.

Let's face it, we live in a get it now, do it now and fix it now a world.  Fast food, disposable products, mass production, surgery first all have impacted our culture as it relates to a meaningful and massive change that is attainable, sustainable and proven.  If we look at the top four areas of growth in the healthcare crisis you could make a case that those would be various cancers, substance abuse, obesity/diabetes and heart disease.  If we then layer over these conditions with the idea of how many can be reduced, reversed and eliminated in "organic ways"-lifestyle management-then we are faced with two obvious choices-diabetes and substance abuse.  The add a dose of reorienting the objective to be "recovery" or returning to a better state of wellbeing-well, then we may see solutions that are right in front of us.

When we talk about how best to eat the proverbial 8,000 pound elephant....well start with the best parts where you can see a big difference in a way that 100% of the population can participate.

Sometimes our politics and our frame of references just make it too hard to see the most obvious solution-focus on recovery and prevention, change the cultural view and something big might happen-for the good this time!
